Trails

There are many trails located at Milford Lake in Kansas. The Crystal Trail is a 2.1 mile track that is open for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding year round. The Waterfall Pond Trail is a short 0.6 mile trail for hikers and mountain bikers. The Pipeline Trail is half a mile long and was made to accommodate hikers, cyclists and horseback riders. The Eagle Ridge Trail is also open to hiking, cycling and horseback riding, and has a generous length of eight miles.

Wildlife

For nature lovers, there are almost 19,000 acres that contain wetlands, forest, grasslands and other native habitats for creatures of all kinds. Opportunities to photograph or observe the local wildlife are abundant. Enjoy the sights of deer, songbirds, and other native wildlife in their natural habitat.

Hunting

If hunting is your favorite pastime, hunting permits can be purchased for quail, pheasant, prairie chicken, rabbit, turkey, duck, goose, deer and squirrel. Fur trappers can find abundant populations of raccoons, beaver, muskrats and other prime furbearers during the season. Some areas are reserved for handicapped visitors, and others are set aside for the Youth/Mentor programs.

Fishing

If you enjoy the water, Milford Lake in Kansas is the perfect destination. Fishing on this incredibly large lake can hook bluegill, blue, flathead and channel catfish, crappie, green sunfish, large and smallmouth bass, walleye, wiper, and spotted and white bass.

If you really enjoy fishing, fill your creel with up to 50 crappie. There are several crappie hangouts in the lake, including the coves in the Curtis Creek and Rolling Hills areas. Check with the park schedule and take part in a fishing tournament to add a little more excitement to your visit. If you prefer water sports, there are several boat ramps around the lake. Boating and sailing, water skiing, swimming and more are water activities that are enjoyed at Milford Lake.

Camping

There are seven campgrounds and three cabins to choose from when you stay at Milford Lake in Kansas. Some facilities are ADA compliant. Out of the seven campgrounds, there are 141 sites with water and electricity. Fifty-one include sewer hook-ups, and 181 primitive campsites round out the rest of the available sites.

The Eagle Ridge Campground also has horse facilities if you are bringing your horses on your vacation. A horse wash bay is also available at this campground. The cabins feature showers, kitchenettes, beds, table and chairs and a barbecue grill. Reservations are required for the cabins. Shower buildings are available at Walnut Grove, Cedar Point, Woodland Hills and Prairie View campgrounds. There are also picnic shelters, a large yacht club and a full-service marina.

Nearby, you can visit the Milford Nature Center and the Milford Fish Hatchery. They both offer several interpretive exhibits and displays so you can enjoy learning about the local flora and fauna.
