Lovewell Lake Kansas




Lovewell Lake in Kansas can be found 18 miles northeast of Mankato. Lovewell State park offers camping, wildlife, fishing and other fun activities for the entire family. The lake itself covers about 3,000 acres.

It was established in 1967, and has since grown into a popular destination for camping and water enthusiasts. The year round activities keep the park lively and fun.

Wildlife

A wildlife interpretive center will help you get familiar with the local wildlife before you visit the 4,625 acre wildlife preserve. Hunting is available seasonally on 2,215 of those acres.

Managed species include deer, waterfowl, wild turkey, pheasant, quail, squirrel and rabbit. Horses are not allowed in the wildlife areas except on maintained roads.

Fishing

For anglers, Lovewell Lake in Kansas offers some great fishing. Walleye, crappie, bluegill, largemouth and white bass, wiper and channel and flathead catfish provide year round excitement.

Events

Lovewell Lake in Kansas is host to may special events throughout the year. In April, the OK Kids' Day offers a geocache scavenger hunt that is fun for everyone. In June, the Kids' Fishing Derby coincides with the Free Fishing Weekend.

July will bring the Sand Castle Contest, while August is the time for the Campfire Cookoff and Lovewell Fun Day. The Chili Cookoff will be held here in September. Be sure to check the park calendar for exact dates and times.

Cabins

Lovewell Lake in Kansas offers six comfortable cabins for your comfort. Visitors must bring their own bedding. The cabins have electricity, heating, cooling and furniture. Some have a porch as well as a barbecue grill, picnic table and campfire ring.

Reservations are required to use the cabins. Four of the cabins can accommodate up to eight adults, and two can hold ten adults.



Camping

There are five campgrounds that offer campsites. There are a few electric sites available at each campground, and many primitive campsites. A limited quantity of sites offer water and electric, or water, electric and sewage. There are also two day use areas.

All of these camping and day use areas are ADA compliant. Showers, fish cleaning stations and other conveniences are located in the campgrounds. The fish cleaning stations are lighted, and offer electrical outlets so you can easily plug in electric knives.

A historic limestone schoolhouse is on site for Sunday services in the summer. An archery range can be found near the Cottonwood campground. Day use areas also feature activities like horseshoes, softball, volleyball and playgrounds.

Near the marina you can find two basketball goals. Swimming beaches and a large log group shelter are also available. The full service marina has a double lane boat ramp for your convenience. You can also rent a slip for your boat if needed. The Kansas Outdoor Store offers supplies and fun souvenirs to remember your stay.
