Fall River Lake in Kansas
Fall River Lake in Kansas is a beautiful, large reservoir that offers beauty, camping facilities and
outdoors activities in the southeastern corner of the state. The 2,450 acre lake is located on the Fall River, and offers swimming, boating, water skiing, and fishing to its many visitors during the year. Nearby campgrounds in Fall River State Park offer tent sites, RV sites and rustic cabins in which to enjoy your stay.
TrailsFall River Lake in Kansas offers many trails to entice hiking enthusiasts. There are two located near Fredonia Bay. Turkey Run Trail leads the explorer through a wooded ravine, over a stream and into a tallgrass prairie with an astounding view of the lake.Casner Creek Trail meanders through the forest, opening onto a breathtaking display of wildflowers. Near Quarry Bay, you can take the Post Oak Trail along Craig Creek to experience sandstone outcroppings, meadows and stands of oak. Catclaw Trail leads you through the tallgrass prairie along sandstone ridges and into oak savannahs. Bluestem Prairie Trail leads you through high prairie that changes to low woodlands. These trails are excellent for studying native flora and fauna, and an orienteering class offered in the park will teach you about many of the species you'll see. The trails around Fall River Lake in Kansas are open to hikers and mountain bikes. The prairies and woodlands offer an abundance of wildflowers in the spring and summer, as well as blackjack and post oaks. With the variety of landscapes available in this region, it is possible to learn about and enjoy the variety of geological features. WildlifeFor birdwatchers and nature lovers, there is an 8,000 acre public wildlife area. It is common to see prairie chickens, waterfowl of all kinds, squirrels, rabbits, wild turkeys, white tail deer, doves and quail. The wildlife area contains more than 400 species of birds. Bluegill, crappie, green sunfish, channel catfish, flathead catfish and largemouth, spotted and white bass frequent the lake. White bass are best caught in the spring in the Fall River above the reservoir and in Otter Creek. Crappies are abundant and are easily caught in the spring and fall.Amenities and Things To DoOther amenities at Fall River State Park include a playground for children, a youth fishing pond, a basketball court, showerhouses, boat ramps and docks, a volleyball court, horseshoe pits, and beaches. Many of the facilities are ADA accessible. Campsites do take reservations if you prefer to plan ahead.In early August, don't miss the annual Fall River Star Party. The Kansas Astronomical Observers bring a slide presentation and several telescopes to let attendees view the heavens. This annual event is held at the campfire theater in Fredonia Bay.
