Cedar Bluff Lake In KansasCedar Bluff Lake in Kansas is just 13 miles south of Interstate 70, not too far from Ellis, Kansas. This beautiful lake, in the center of Cedar Bluff State Park, offers camping, outdoor sports, boating, wildlife, fishing and other outdoor activities.
ParksThere are two major areas for the public around the lake. The Bluffton Area is the most developed and attracts crowds during the summer season. It is located on the north shore of the lake. The Page Creek Area is on the south shore, and offers some of the most beautiful primitive camping available. Many campsites are shaded by large, beautiful trees. There are some cabins available in the Bluffton Area and they can be reserved in advance.WildlifeThe size of the Wildlife area fluctuates as the reservoir rises and lowers. This region is perfect for sighting and photographing wild life like bald and golden eagles, deer, pheasants, turkeys, pelicans and waterfowl of all kinds.There is also an area for hunting big game like white-tail and mule deer and migratory birds like doves, geese and ducks. Upland birds like pheasant and quail are abundant. From September 10 to March 1, 1,000 acres of land and 100 acres of water are closed to the public. This refuge is also closed during hunting season. FishingIf you like fishing, you'll love Cedar Bluff Lake in Kansas. Since the lake refilled in 1993, there has been a fish population explosion. Fish for crappie, bluegill, black bass and catfish, as well as spotted and smallmouth bass.Walleye, white bass and wiper will give fishermen a lot of sport and good eating afterwards. For the best results, be sure and check the local fishing reports. They will fill you in on what bait to use for what species, and where the best fishing seems to happen. Amenities and Other Things To DoIf watersports are more your style, Cedar Bluff Lake in Kansas will not disappoint you. Choose from boating, windsurfing, water skiing, jet skis and swimming. Anything you can do in water, you can do at Cedar Bluff.Other amenities in Cedar Bluff State Park include a basketball court, a playground, a BMX track, several cabins, showerhouses and boat ramps, beaches and a fishing pier. Many of these facilities are ADA accessible. If you like a little history with your scenery, be sure to visit Threshing Machine Canyon. This is the site of an 1850s Native American attack on a wagon train hauling a threshing machine. This historic site is home to carvings dating back to the mid-1800s. If you still want to see more, drive to the top of the tall limestone bluffs for a staggering view. More history awaits in nearby Fort Hays State University's Sternberg Museum and the Chalk Pyramids in southwest Gove County. Even older, fossil beds are also abundant in the native limestone. If you're looking for a spot that is fun for the entire family, you can't go wrong with Cedar Bluff Lake in Kansas. There is something for everyone.
